Five for Friday: November 14th Linky Party

Sooooooo glad that Friday is HERE! A little humor to start your day....
I love doing this little activity with the kids during this time of the year. We make one side together and then turn it over and they start giggling when they realize what we have done to create two different things. Many kids think it is magic =) I like to hang these in the room so you can see both sides when they are turning in the air. Great fine motor practice for those little hands!
flip me over....
This is one of my all time favorite books. If you haven't read this to your class, you need to check it out. It is a funny story about a turkey that fools an entire town. The story is written in rhyme and the kids made their own WANTED posters. I was brave and let them use different mediums from our closest. Who doesn't love paint and markers? LOL!

Organization is key to keeping my sanity when I'm a single mom for the week! Well, that and my running. LOL! I actually set these up on my supply table every week so that everything is out in case a sub would ever have to jump in. I start preparing for the following week on Wednesdays, lesson plans done by Thursday, and blog/newsletter on Friday. Can you tell that I am a bit OCD? =P

I am so glad to be done with my evaluation this week. Even though I put 110% in everyday, I still manage to worry about the eval. In Ohio, we go through a process called OTES (Ohio Teacher Evaluation System). This is how the framework is laid out.... It is a little crazy but I am a bit different being in Kindergarten since we don't do the state testing like the older grades. My student growth score is based on the district score.

So begins the winter season. If you live where there is snow, you know what I am talking about when the first snow falls.......the squealing!!!! They were so wound up the rest of the day. I wonder how long it will take for the excitement to wear off? For me, I am good with one day and being done the rest of the year. LOL!

 Have a great weekend!

  1. I so love that turkey/Indian craft. I think even my sixth graders would enjoy it. Really cute! And I am doing the happy dance for you in completing your OTES. I'm an Ohio teacher, too, and my SLO was approved yesterday :) (ahhh, the acronyms of teaching...)

    1. Thanks, Beth! Isn't it crazy? It is such a relief to get it done though =) Stay warm this weekend!

  2. Oh my goodness! I could not even imagine having to deal with the kiddos if it snowed. Last year when we had "snow" predicted for the next day and the kids knew school would be closed (because I live in the deep south and we cannot function in snow apparently) it was insane!

  3. Your turkey/Indian craft is adorable. What a clever way to disguise a turkey. I LOVE the first snowfall of the year. I grew up in Wisconsin. I spent the last 7 years in Seattle, and though we get some snow, it's not nearly the amount I was used to growing up. My last year in the classroom I had a little boy from the Middle East. He had never seen snow before. I'll never forget him standing at the classroom door watching the snow. He couldn't do anything else. I took a picture and sent it to his mom. Enjoy the wonder! I know it wears off quickly. ;) Happy Friday!

  5. Hooray for your evaluation being done! I hope that it went well. Although I'm not an Ohio teacher I too get nervous about any type of evaluation/observation and know that I'm so happy when it's over! And I love your weekly organization signs! I always feel it's better to be ready and prepared because you just never know! Have a great weekend.

  6. Glad your evaluation is finished! My kiddos were SO excited about the first snow yesterday too. One said, "This is the best day ever because we never got play in snow at recess before". The little things that make them happy. Have a great weekend!

  7. The Wanted posters are super cute! I'll have to check out that book. Congrats on being done with your eval. I'm going through that right now, and it's so time consuming!

    1. You will do great! This was supposed to be my 'off' year but I don't know why they call it that when we go through the same procedure :) Best wishes!

  8. That picture is priceless! It doesn't snow in Houston. More often than not we wear shorts on Christmas. I'm so jealous. My reaction to snow would look just liked the little boy with his fists in the air. Maybe this is the year. It was in the 40s today. That's rather chilly for November in Houston.
